Shallow Water Charters

Fished today with Daniel Island Resident and Fishing Club member David White.  The wind finally let up.  Clear skies and calm flats made for a near  perfect sight fishing situation.  Water temperatures in the 57 degree range have the fish acting more aggressively.  With a good angler on board, I was looking forward to a productive morning.  We hit a couple of flats on the incoming tide and found big schools of Redfish on them .  Managed to catch 2-3 fish per school.   They get smart after a few of their buddies get caught.  Most were well above the slot limit.  After the tide came in and the water on our initial flats got to deep, we ran further up river to fish the last of the high tide on a very shallow flat.  Saw lots of singles and a couple of small schools.  Picked up 3 from this flat.  David hooked a HUGE Red that nearly spooled the ultra-light reel.  It unfortunately broke him off on some oysters.  All fish were caught on GULP shrimp.  The fish were pretty spooky, so we had to lead them (with our lure presentation) by 6 feet or so.  Anything less would spook them.  Good day on the water.  It is very exciting and great fun to watch the fish react to your presentation and then actually hit the lure!
